Big Ass Camp Tarp Instructions
This tarp pitches easiest in a diagonal orientation with two long guy-lines clipped around trees, and two shorter guylines at the opposite corners staked into the ground. It is meant to be pitched over a picnic table, group area, or over a tent.
Recommended guy-lines cut from the included 50 foot spool of cord:
Diagonal Ridgeline Corners - 2x 16 feet (4.88m) w/ carabiners to clip around trees.
Opposite Corners - 2x 6 feet (1.83m) staked into the ground.
It is recommended that you carry the remaining 6 feet (1.83 m) with loops tied to both ends to add as an extension to whichever line needs extra length to reach a tree. It will come in handy.
If you prefer to pitch this tarp in an A-frame configuration using all eight attachment points, you may need to purchase an additional spool of 2mm yellow Z-line cord.

Tarp Add-Ons
50 Feet 2.0 mm Z-Line Cord
Lowered the weight to my tents, and provided a stronger system overall.
– Carmen W., ★★★★★
On rainy nights when the winds are strong, feel safe inside your dry shelter knowing your guylines are strong enough to withstand anything. Z-line Dyneema® cord is composed of a white Dyneema® core with a braided polyester sheath. Dyneema® has a high strength to weight ratio and does not stretch.
2.0 mm is the best choice for use with Lineloc V Guy Line Adjuster.
Available in Yellow, or Black. The yellow cord is extremely bright and easy to see as guy-lines day or night. It is not reflective but it does stand out well at night with a headlamp or in moonlight. The yellow cord shows up better at night compared to orange colored cord.

48" Carbon Fiber Tent Pole
I've been impressed with their combination of very lightweight, excellent build quality and utility. I often use trekking poles, but when I don't these work very well. I highly recommend them.
– William H., ★★★★★
These ultralight carbon fiber tent poles are the perfect substitute for setting up our tents if you do not use trekking poles. The 48” size works with our Plexamid (uses 1), Duplex (uses 2) and Triplex (uses 2) tents.
We also have a 32" Carbon Fiber Tent Pole for propping up the head and foot ends of your tent.
58" Carbon Fiber Tent Pole
I’m certainly not a trekking pole guy and love to save weight and bulk when I can, so since getting the Altaplex, I needed a pole that was tall enough for it and this pole fits the bill! Lightweight, durable, and affordable - this is my solution!
– James A., ★★★★★
These ultralight carbon fiber tent poles are the perfect substitute for setting up our Altaplex Tent if you do not use trekking poles that extend to 58-60".
We also have a 32" Carbon Fiber Tent Pole for propping up the head and foot ends of your tent.
32" Carbon Fiber Tent Pole
Use this pole for my tarp set up; flawless and high quality. I can always count on Zpacks to deliver
– Mark W., ★★★★★
These ultralight carbon fiber tent poles are perfect for propping up the sides of any of our tents when combined with our trekking pole cups. This size would also work at the foot of a flat tarp.

Regular Tent Pole Sack
The tent stake pouch is the perfect size for the 48" collapsible tent poles. Works great for someone who doesn’t like using trekking poles. It keeps the poles nice and consolidated and tightly packed together.
– Jacob F., ★★★★★
Keep your tent poles contained and protect your more delicate gear items from punctures with this tent pole sack. This size will fit up to four of our ultralight tent poles with a folded length up to about 13.5” (34 cm). With this sack you can store your short tent poles rolled up inside your tent without worrying about puncturing the tent or the tent stuff sack.
If you need a tent pole sack for longer dome style poles, try our Extra Large Tent Pole Sack.
7" Super Sonic Stake
Reliable, stays securely in ground. Peace of mind, especially in bad weather.
– Cheryl R., ★★★★★
These Y-Beam stakes are the largest and strongest that we have. The 7-inch length and large diameter give them excellent holding power.
These are difficult to bend. They are strong enough to withstand being hammered or pounded with a rock, however the top end may get chewed up so we would still recommend avoiding hammering. If the ground is too firm, turn them sideways and anchor them with a rock.
These are bright blue, which makes them hard to lose. They have a cord on the end to make it easy to pull them out of the ground.
7" Super Sonic Stake
$2.50 USD6.4" Carbon Fiber Stake
Easy to place into all terrain. Great holding capability.
– Zee S., ★★★★★
Increased surface area make these Carbon Fiber Stakes a great choice for soft terrain. Made with a Carbon Fiber shaft with a metal tip and metal end cap, these stakes have the best holding power to weight ratio of any of the stakes we carry. These stakes have an orange cord through the end to make them easy to see and easy to pull out of the ground.
The thick diameter allows them to grip the ground better than thin titanium. These are excellent in loose soil, and they have also proven to be very functional in typical dirt. On packed ground or on bedrock lay them sideways and anchor with rocks.
These are the only stakes that can reliably be carried through airport security. We have carried these stakes through US airport security a dozen times with no issues. Our experience with metal stakes is they are confiscated about half the time. Please report if you have any trouble with these.
6.5" Red Tough Titanium Tent Stake
I have used many different brands of titanium wire stakes and find these to be the best quality.
– Steve H., ★★★★★
Perfect for those hikers who need a little more strength and durability. These stakes are a little longer and thicker than our 6” ultralight titanium tent stakes. They have a little more grip and are less susceptible to bending. These stakes are easier to press into packed or frozen ground compared to larger stakes. Since these are ultralight stakes, It is better to press them into the ground rather than hammering. Use rocks to anchor them in high wind.
They have a red head, which makes them harder to lose.
6" Sonic Stake
These stakes are perfect to me : strong enough, really lightweight and the tiny string is very convenient too.
– Patrick M., ★★★★★
These Sonic Stakes have a "Y-Beam" shape which gives them great holding power in a small package. The three-sided design also gives them good bend resistance for an ultralight stake. The price of aluminum beats titanium or carbon.
These are bright blue, which makes them hard to lose. They have a cord on the end to make it easy to pull them out of the ground.
Never hammer ultralight stakes. While the bend resistance feels very solid, these are able to bend if you put your full weight on them. They can also be bent back reasonably well.
6" Sonic Stake
$2.25 USD6.5" Titanium V Stake
Super light weight with great holding power especially in loose soil. I keep a few in my stake bag for extra reassurance
– Josh N., ★★★★★
From soft sand to snow, the Titanium V Stakes are a great option when you need a little more stability. These V-shaped stakes are made from ultralight and ultra strong titanium. This broad stake is designed to grip loose soil and hold better in the wind compared to thinner stakes. If the ground is too firm, turn them sideways and anchor them with a rock. Although these are pretty strong, they can be bent in half if you lean your body weight on them too hard.
In windy territory you may want a full set. For normal conditions save weight with lighter stakes, and maybe add just one or two of these for additional anchors on windy nights.
These have a red-coated end, which makes them easy to see and a red cord to make them easier to pull out of the ground.
6" Ultralight Titanium Tent Stake
Stakes worked well in a lot of different ground types. Rocky or sandy or bushes always seemed to find a way to set up my tent and they held all night. Very strong too. Haven’t bent any even though I did hit a few rocks.
– Jeremy S., ★★★★★
These are the lightest weight stakes you can get with reasonable holding power and durability. Titanium is very light and strong for its weight, but some care should be exercised to prevent bending. Thin stakes like these are easier to press into moderately firm soil compared to thicker stakes. You will want to use rocks to weigh them down in loose soil or in windy conditions.
They have an orange head, which makes them harder to lose.
